The recipe dates back to the 1920s during World War I as the cocktail was known to pack a powerful punch similar to a French 75mm field gun used in battle. It was originally developed at the legendary Harry&#8217;s New York Bar in Paris (along with the Bloody Mary and Sidecar) by barman Harry MacElhone. Harry&#8217;s was known to be a popular spot for American soldiers and celebrities to let loose and enjoy lavish drinks while remaining a secret to tourists. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The cocktail is a variation of the classic Tom Collins cocktail, which consists of sparkling water as a substitute for sparkling wine. With just a few ingredients, the White Lily is an even more sophisticated way to sip champagne. To make this drink, combine prosecco or champagne (we used La Marca prosecco for this recipe) with about 1 \u00bd oz of gin, simple syrup to taste, and lemon juice in a shaker. Strain and garnish with a lemon peel and rim the glass with sugar for an even sweeter twist.
